Hi John and Mary - I wanted to send a quick note to say thank you again for your wonderful hospitality, I can't tell you enough, how much I enjoyed myself.  I have already booked my bear hunt with Paul for next year, same week and requested that Paul puts me up with you.  I hope you have a successful Fall and Winter season, and will see you next year.

PS - Tell Ken I said hello.

Whenever I brought friends "from away" to Grand Lake to visit, the one comment I always heard was "I didn't know there were places like this left in the world."

No matter how far away I may live, Grand Lake will always be my home . . . seeing these photos just reminds me of why, whenever someone asks where I'm from, I always reply "Phoenix, but I'm originally from Grand Lake Stream, Maine . . "

Great site, and it was great to meet you guys, the new folks in town, at Christmas -- say hi to all the locals for me!

John, Mary, and young John,

Thank you for all your hospitality on our visit to Canal side Cabins last week. Although the lake fishing was not as great as we had hoped, John's expertise helped us experience landing our first fly rod salmon in the stream. I think Chris and Jacob want to grow up to be just like young John. Hopefully the ice is gone from West Grand now and our comrades in the Bartlett group are catching their limit. Pass on that we wish we were still there and we will see them Saturday.

John, Mary, John and Michael,

Let's see. how many ways are there to say thank you? I suppose I could begin using a different language every year. Or perhaps study up on other cultures to see how they say thank you. How would you feel about having another camel for your herd?

Or I could be lazy and just same the same old words - Thanks for making it happen again. Without your support the youth program would be "just another youth program". The fall trip to Canal Side Cabins is what makes it different. To you, Randy our favorite entertainer and to the other guides who donated their time, a great big MMBTU THANK YOU. We're already looking to see when Columbus day falls next year. Best regards to all, Tom

Website is reflective of our wonderful personal experience at your camp.Pehaps you might think about improving the 'readabiity' of your Website by selecting more contrasting colors between the background and the data offered in print. e.g. the orange and /or yellow lettering is difficult to read on the gold background. Dear John, Mary, Bean & Dude Just writing to let you know that the experience we shared in the woods of Maine, and the hospitality we were shown, was beyond compare. There is no possible way we could ever thank you people enough, but we're going to try in this note.

The Landscape, the vast wilderness, the wildlife and the Maine way of life was overwhelming in itself, and than the Arcaro's treated us like royalty. This was too much for any one person to handle. It was so difficult that we know we'll be back next year!!! From all of us at Minichini Sportsmen's Association, to the Arcaro's at Canal Side, Thank you

I stayed with John and Mary for the first time last year. I had some major problems with the boat and motor and the whole place / town turned out to help. I offered to pay but they said no. I bought some beer and steaks instead. I was heart broken with the end of fishing from my boat but they still made for a good time anyway ! When we were fishing though the fishing was pretty good for some folks from "away". Thanks again to all that particiapted. Looking forward to staying there again this year ! Scott, Northboro, MA

Dear Mary, John, young John, Mike, Jessie and Kenny,

Thank you for another extraordinary memory at Grand Lake Stream. You folks are simply the best; no one makes you feel more at home and so welcome as you do. Relating all of our adventures to whomever would listen was a grand realization. We laughed about the jokes John told (Dad remembered every one!), the discoveries, the serenity we enjoyed on Big Lake, Chris and John, the walks, St. Andrews, fishing together in the stream with all our gear, the quite evenings by the fire and on the porch. It was a wonderful. Dad was so excited recalling these adventures, he left this morning to go to brother Bill's with pictures.

Hope all is well.

Love to all and God Bless,

Hawley

John,Mary,John Jr. & Mike, We just wanted you all to know, that you made our vacation a memorable one. We thought the sunset cruise on the lake was the best way to end the vacation and then it happened. The northern lights show. That was simply fabulous. That was a once in a life time thing. Any one who goes to Canal-Cabins must take the sunset cruise because its just beautiful. Then every night look into the sky you never know you might get as lucky as us and see the best light show of your life. We can't wait to come back again for another visit. In the mean time we are looking into maybe some day moving to the place that you call home and we call relaxing, enjoyable, wounderful, and a bit heavenly. Thanks again for making our vacation wounderful. If it weren't for all of you our vacation would not have been as memorable as it is. I will be emailing you some pictures of the sunset maybe you can make pictures or post cards our of them. We will be in touch and also we will pass the word about GLS the way everyone should live. Love Always, Marty & Kathy

Wow did everybody have a good time. Thanks so much for helping us out. Your contribution is invaluable.

We sent home eight kids who will never forget the weekend. You should have seen the lights turn on when those youngsters started seeing fish and understanding what we were doing. Grand Lake Stream will always stick out in their memories as a very special place.

Thanks again.

Hi John and Dale I wanted to let you guys know we got home in same amount of time as it took us to drive up. All of the guys and myself included had a great hunting trip due to your going out of your way to make it so. We all feel that you've treated us like family. We appreciate how you took care of all our problems John and also we're impressed on how easily you managed to go out and get a nice buck. We look forward to seeing you and your family again next year. And for you Dale,,,, we we're amazed on you bear hunting knowledge. Vince is already making arrangements to get full mount done on the bear he got while being guided by you. We were slightly dissapointed that you are already booked up for next years hunts but when your as good as you are, that's to be expected. We are planning to have you guide for us on deer hunting next year John, we hope you will be available. Once again, I have to stress to you both how much all of us enjoyed meeting you and sharing your company!

Take good care! Respectfully, Bob M.

Hi John & Mary! Just wanted to say that the site looks great. We had a very good visit last year even though it rained cats and dogs the first day we were there. Also, the fact that we got lost on the ice coming back to camp that night. Thought it was really nice that John would take the time around 8 p.m. that night to come and find us but we finally arrived back to the cabin before he headed out. The cabin was great and we really enjoyed the nice hot shower we had when we got back to the cabin. The ice shack was a nice thing to have out on the ice especially when it rained. Thought it was pretty handy to be able to get bait just before we hit the ice. The fishing was great and we really enjoyed our stay. We will see you two again in Febuary. Thank you again, Lewis & Bill

Hey Folks I was in a Dick's Sporting Goods Store and and a fella I know who works there relayed this message " John said the next time you see Woody tell him I said hello". The Woody thing caught me by surprise, apparently another local was up your way and saw a photo and said that he knew me. Small world after all. I'm planning on coming up in June. Will call soon to make reservations.

Greetings from Greenfield, NH. Been a while since we checked out the web site. Looks wonderful. Even more wonderful to be there. The bird hunting was the best this year. And every other year as well. Kathie is hooked after last summer and we will definitely be doing that again. Maybe in the spring, also. Can you build an addition for us? She wants to see our pictures on the web site. Do we have to do something notorious? Maybe a karaoke machine. Love to all. Bill and Kathie Brooks

Dear John Thanks for making my 70th birthday much more than a milestone. Your "Guiding" and friendship during the few hours my son, Alan, and I spent with you on West Grand Lake and the Stream below the dam were "perfect" days. Your love for the region and your skills in your chosen perfession created the best possible fishing experience. I hope that I will be able to fish (or hunt) with you again. In the meantime, I will provide your name to my friends as the best possible guide to great fishing in Maine. Stay well and extend my best wishes to your family. Sincerely Stan G. (June 3 & 4, 2003)

I Just returned from your Cabins  we have been staying at these cabins for 16 seasons (this year to be the last) and I have to say I am suprise that you are still in buisness (Thank the state of Maine for good managment of the Lake)   I have not seen any improvements to the cabins since you purchased the property  Not to mention you very unpersonable nature  You certianly give Out  of  Staters a bad name  Hope to be back again just as soon as your self destructive personality finally ends your stay in the sporting camp business  Thanks for the Lesson in how not to run a business  P S  I am sure you will not have the nerve to post this on you site  Just knowing you read this is good enough for me  W Brown

Response from owners John & Mary

Original comments from W Brown were posted on February 24 2005

Our response was posted on this date March 14 2005

What would a guestbook or comment page be without some type of negative feedback  We do not want to elaborate on the details of this situation  but W Brown failed to mention that his group was escorted off the property by the Maine State Troopers and the Troopers were backed up by the Passamaquoddy Police Department
